How Uncrushed is Bringing Awareness to Mental Health and Helping Drive Business Outcomes
Written by Sangram Vajre
You don’t get a nickname like “Saywhatsales” unless you’re talking some truth.
In today’s episode of the Flip My Funnel podcast James “Saywhatsales” Buckley, Business Development Manager at Ringlead and Brand Ambassador for UNCrushed joined me on the show to step a little outside of our normal lane.
Here’s what we talked about with James:
- How to start a conversation about Mental Health.
- The way companies have begun to respond to these issues.
- Locating resources and finding protection.
- How UNCrushed is being a catalyst and matching people with resources.
“Touching on a deeper topic.”
Everything starts with becoming comfortable talking about the hard things. We wanted to find the best way to open up this dialogue. And sometimes it’s best just to dive in!
1 in 5 adults in America experience mental illness, and nearly 60% do not seek assistance. It’s a big problem – a big challenge.
But just as non-profits like UNCrushed are popping up to help address the issue and provide and outlet and resources for those impacted by mental health issues, we’re seeing a shift in our culture that can help remove the stigma and address the issue head on.
Put a smile on your face.
We hear a lot about showing up to work with your “whole self”, being sure not to “bring the team down” or something similar. In the past, we’ve looked at these issues and asked people to “suck it up” or “get it together”.
And it’s had tragic effects.
At the end of the day, companies have a bottom line they need to meet; sales goals that must be hit. It’s what they’ve hired you to do.
But as awareness increases, companies have started looking for solutions. And in most cases, there’s a general care. It’s just met with a need for further education.
And there are resources available! We simply need awareness, access, and a spirit of cooperation around this to get people what they need..
Connect and Impact
Turning your struggle as your superpower means using something negative to positively impact other aspects of your life or those around you.
People are beginning to speak out about these issues. It’s their courage that helps build the UNCrushed platform and ones like it. Everyone has been impacted by mental health struggles. If it’s not you, it’s someone you know.
Being able to turn things like this around helps others find hope and inspiration, and aids in further education and support for those who are in the battle right now.
“Together we’re uncrushed.”
You need to know your people. In particular, you need to understand how pressure is used to motivate – or demean – those around you.
Sometimes pressure is motivational. You’ll find those who excel under the most competitive or dire of circumstances.
Other times, pressure causes discord in the mind and heart. When that happens, you see a lack of productivity – a lag in the day and frowns on faces.
Those people have lost their passion because that pressure forces them to react negatively.
How do you deal with pressure?
And how do you give pressure to people in an effective way?
If this comes back to you in a negative way, then it’s time to address how this is handled.
Do a self audit.
Are you happy with what you’re doing?
Does this give me fulfillment?
If you’re not feeling those senses of happiness, fulfillment, and joy in your daily routines, be courageous enough to step up and tell your supervisor that you’re struggling.
There are things that they can do to help you feel better about your contribution to the company, the organization, the team, and the people around you.
Change the way we interact with both our personal circles and professional life.
